I now work primarily on the two long-term research project that I lead: MIGNEX, a large collaborative project on migration and development, and Future Migration as Present Fact (FUMI), my ERC Consolidator project. February and much of March were devoted to MIGNEX fieldwork in Cape Verde, where I take part in the pilot of our survey and carry out qualitative data collection. The following months are spent on revising the detailed methodology on the basis of experiences from Cape Verde as well as Afghanistan, Ghana and Pakistan, where other team members do initial data collection. For the FUMI project, I am working with my colleague Tone Sommerfelt on laying the theoretical groundwork for ethnographic fieldwork and survey data collection in the years to come.
