I am back in Oslo after a year in Guangzhou, China, where my wife Heidi was doing fieldwork for her research. I concentrate on wrapping up research on our project Transnational Lives in the Welfare State (TRANSWEL), my analysis with Erlend Paasche on of how migration and return are represented in Nigerian cultural production, and a couple of other projects. From the beginning of 2020 onwards I hope to work exclusively on the two long-term research initiatives that I lead: MIGNEX, a large European project migration and development, and Future Migration as Present Fact (FUMI), my ERC Consolidator project.
